Third site lucky

Having failed to see Lesser Pecker at Silent Valley and Red Kite at Garnlydan, I was finally repaid for seven and a half hours of effort by a gorgeous male Hen Harrier hunting over Waunafon Bog. Another 'regular' species bites the dust, 179 species have now been accrued (just one more and I'll be happy, not ecstatic, but happy).

I've seen grey partridge twice in the past few months at Pen y lan above and behind Bassaleg school. Park in the first of the Laybys above the M4 as you come up from bassaleg. Walk back around 30m yards to the bridal path turn left and walk diadonally over towards the NW. The partridges have been in this field but both times have flown into the stubble field in front of the farmhouse. I suspect this is where they come from.
